Force Fetch - Training pointer to retrieve

I have been working with a beautiful German shorthair pointer, Jinx on the trained retrieve (force fetch). Jinx is coming along nicely. I started on the table using the ear pinch, getting him to hold dowels, wooden dumbells (photo above), bumpers, then graduating to a hammer (held far down the handle, it’s awkward and difficult to hold), and a metal pry bar (again, uncomfortable and difficult to hold). With Jinx confidence and previous training, and his ability to learn, he is coming along quickly. However, it’s important not to skip steps, so the foundation is properly laid.

It looks like you’re doing a great job with Jinx. I can’t wait to get him back, it will be just in time for the upland season to start. I brought Jinx to you because you were recommended by another GSP owner that had you do the same thing with his dog. He was very satisfied and said good things about you.

I appreciate you spending a couple of hours with me showing what you would be doing with Jinx. This is the first time I’ve used a trainer for any of my dog training. After seeing how you handled my dog I wasn’t concerned at all and feel very comfortable knowing that he is in good hands.

Thanks for everything your doing and for the updates through email.
Keep up the good work both of you!

    Brian
