I’m excited for dove season, but I’m also getting nervous. This happens almost every year here in central Utah, just before the dove hunt we get a cool spell and the doves move out. Over the past month we have had really good dove numbers, but I’m anxious to see what we have in a week. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. If you are planning on hunting doves, get your license early. It’s now easy online at the DWR website. Also, get your hip registration number so you’re not trying to do it on your way to the dove field.

i have been a pheasant hunter. the problem with that is that i have to plan a trip out of state to do it. i have recently gotten into dove hunting since i can do it here in florida with relative ease and much less expense. my question is about the dogs. i understand that bird dogs are usually of certain breeds and being field bred is usually paramount. i have a purebred rottweiler who has shown considerable interest in the doves i have brought home. i know i probably wont ever get him to flush and find birds like a bred retriever, but do you think he could work as a retriever of downed birds? if anyone knows i would be very interested in thoughts. you can email me at tobysfirehousepaint@yahoo.com
